Born Florence Rabe in San Antonio, Texas, the second childof Jewish immigrants, Bates showed musical talent as a child, but a hand injuryinhibited her from continuing her piano studies. She graduated from theUniversity of Texas with a degree in Mathematics in 1906, after which shetaught school. In 1909 she met and married her first husband and gave up hercareer to raise their daughter. When her marriage ended in divorce, she beganto study law and passed the bar in 1914, becoming at the age of 26 the firstfemale attorney in her home state.

After the death of her parents, Bates left the legal profession to help hersister operate their father’s antique business. She became a bilingual radiocommentator whose program was designed to foster good relations between theUnited States and Mexico. In 1929, she closed the antique shop and marriedwealthy oil baron William F. Jacoby. When he lost his fortune, the couple movedto Los Angeles and opened a bakery.

In the mid-1930s, Bates auditioned for and won the role of Miss Bates in aPasadena Playhouse adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. When she decided tocontinue working with the theatre group, she changed her professional name tothat of the first character she played on stage. In 1939 she was introduced toAlfred Hitchcock, who cast her in her first major screen role, the vain dowagerMrs. Van Hopper, in Rebecca.

Bates appeared in more than sixty films over the course of the next thirteenyears. Among her credits are Kitty Foyle, The Moon and Sixpence, Mr. Lucky,Heaven Can Wait, Since You Went Away, Kismet, Saratoga Trunk, The Secret Lifeof Walter Mitty, Winter Meeting, I Remember Mama, Portrait of Jennie, A Letterto Three Wives, On the Town, and Les Misérables. Bates had a regular role onThe Hank McCune Show and made guest appearances on I Love Lucy, My LittleMargie, and Our Miss Brooks.

Bates died of a heart attack in Los Angeles, aged 65.

Carol Creighton Burnett is an American actress, comedienne,singer, dancer and writer. Burnett started her career in New York. Afterbecoming a hit on Broadway, she debuted on television. Justin Wayne Tubb (d. January 24, 1998) was an Americancountry music singer and songwriter. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was theoldest son of legendary country singer Ernest Tubb.

By 1954 he made it on the country chart with two duets with GoldieHill—(“Looking Back to See” and “Sure Fire Kisses”). A year later, at age 20,he was made a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Tubb had a few recordings of hisown that enjoyed success, including “I Gotta Go Get My Baby” and “Take a LetterMiss Gray”, but he was more successful as a songwriter. He penned many hitsongs for other performers, including “Keeping Up with the Joneses”, “Love IsNo Excuse”, and “Lonesome 7-7203″, a hit for Hawkshaw Hawkins. Ultimately, sixof his songs won awards. In the late 1950s he and roomed with a young,up-and-coming songwriter named Roger Miller.

During the 1960s, Tubb worked worked with his father on various businessprojects. Toward the end of his own life, he completed an album of duets withhis father, using recordings Ernest had made before his death. The album, JustYou and Me Daddy (1999), was released after Justin Tubb died in Nashville onJanuary 24, 1998. He was survived by his widow, Carolyn McPherson Tubb.

Both of his sons (two of Ernest’s grandsons)—Cary Tubb (died November 27,2008, survived by older son Bryce and younger son Codee) and his youngerbrother Zachary Tubb—became musicians. Cary performed around the U.S. and inEngland. Zachery has released one album.

Douglas Wayne Sahm (d. November 18, 1999), was a musicianfrom Texas. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was a child prodigy in countrymusic, but became a significant figure in blues, rock and other genres. TodaySahm is considered one of the most important figures in what is identified asTejano music. He was the founder and leader of the 1960s rock and roll band TheSir Douglas Quintet, and later with Augie Meyers, Freddy Fender and FlacoJimenez in The Texas Tornados, and also in Los Super Seven supergroup.

Sahm was proficient on dozens of musical instruments and was a lifelongbaseball fan.

Henry Gabriel Cisneros is a politician and businessman. ADemocrat, Cisneros served as the 10th Secretary of Housing and UrbanDevelopment (HUD) in the administration of President Bill Clinton from 1993 to1997. As HUD Secretary, Cisneros was credited with initiating therevitalization of many of the nation’s public housing developments and withformulating policies that contributed to achieving the nation’s highest everhomeownership rate. Dunn is the daughter of a minister father. Her brother is country musicsongwriter Chris Waters, with whom she has co-written much of her recordedmaterial.

Gretchen Anne Magers is a former professional tennis playerfrom the United States.

Magers played tennis at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, from 1983to 1986, where she was a four-time All-American.

During her career, Magers reached the singles quarter-finals at Wimbledon,the US Open and the French Open. She won three top-level singles titles(Auckland in 1987, Schenectady in 1988, and Moscow in 1989), and reached acareer-high singles ranking of World No. 13. She was runner-up in the 1988mixed doubles at Wimbledon, partnering Kelly Jones.

Magers retired from the professional tour in 1992, but has continued to playin seniors events.

Michael Shawn Hickenbottom, better known by his ring nameShawn Michaels, is a former American professional wrestler. Heperformed for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), formerly the World WrestlingFederation (WWF), from 1988 until his retirement in 2010. He was considered oneof WWE’s senior performers, having performed for over 20 years.

Hickenbottom began his wrestling career with Mid-South Wrestling, now knownas Universal Wrestling Federation, and American Wrestling Association (AWA).During his time with AWA, he performed in partnership with Marty Jannetty, asThe Midnight Rockers; winning the AWA World Tag Team Championship twice.Hickenbottom and Jannetty then signed with World Wrestling Federation (WWF),while in contract with AWA. Hickenbottom later worked as a single performer, taking on a new persona of“The Heartbreak Kid” and, first as a villain and later as a fan favorite, movedinto the main event sphere. He made his in-ring return atSummerSlam in 2002. In 2006, Hickenbottom and Triple H briefly reformed DX, butafter an injury that Triple H sustained, Hickenbottom returned to singleswrestling. Although as of 2009, the duo reunited as a tag team once more, withthe two capturing the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship.

Among other accolades, Hickenbottom is a four-time world champion: athree-time WWF Champion and a former World Heavyweight Champion. He was alsothe winner of the 1995 and 1996 Royal Rumbles and was the company’s first GrandSlam Champion. Tabitha Soren (born Tabitha LeeSornberger) is a former reporter for MTV News. She is perhaps bestknown as the public face for MTV’s “Choose or Lose” campaign designed toinspire young people to vote.

Soren was born in San Antonio, Texas. As a minor note of pre-MTV fame, Sorenwas a 19-year-old college student when she appeared in a 1987 video for “(YouGotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party)” by the Beastie Boys while studying atNew York University.

Soren married author Michael Lewis in 1997, and they have three children:Quinn Tallulah (b. 2000), Dixie (2002), and Walker Jack (2007). Soren is nowknown as Tabitha Lee Lewis.
